VALE Martin Rayner.

On behalf of the President and Board of AFL Masters it is with great sadness that we have just been informed of the passing of Marty Rayner on Tuesday, September 22 of a suspected heart attack.

Marty was the driving force behind the Sunshine Coast Superules club for the last 18 years. He has been a long-time life member of AFL Masters QLD and represented QLD in many national carnivals, winning All Australian honours on several occasions.

Marty was the key ‘hands on man’ for the success of the National Carnival held in Maroochydore in 2006 and worked tirelessly for AFL Masters to help make the carnival an outstanding occasion for all participants.

Marty was due to play in the coming Cairns carnival in the QLD 50s team and also was the appointed Team Manager of the 35s QLD team. We send our best wishes to his team mates to enjoy the carnival and play well for Marty.

We pass on our condolences to his family and many friends and give our thanks for his work for AFL football in Australia.

Marty was 52.

Rest In Peace Marty. We’ll have a drink and remember you in Cairns”.

The Game of Masters Australian Football (MAF) provides the opportunity for players 30 years and over to enjoy the game of Aussie Rules Football in a safe, supportive and fun environment.

After first commencing in 1980 the sport is governed by MAF (formerly Superules Australia Inc) and its nine member state Associations and is now played by over 119 teams throughout Australia.  MAF has a national standardised set of modified rules designed to reduce the risks of injury and has the benefit of being acknowledged and supported by the AFL and the Australian Sorts Commission.

You will find a welcoming atmosphere at MAF clubs with an emphasis on family involvement and fun social interaction.  While a good level of fitness is required to enjoy the game fully, training runs once or twice a week without huge time commitments are the order of the day for MAF.  The big events of the year for MAF is the National Carnival which is played annually, rotating to various State venues.
