Masters Australian Football

Patron's Message for 2005 Carnival

The AFL has a strong commitment which profiles on the national elite competition, however, the AFL Commission is very conscious of the need to foster the growth of Australian Rules Football at all levels. With the continuing growth of masters sport in recent years we are pleased to see our veterans have the opportunity to compete and enjoy Australian Rules football with all of the benefits and enjoyment that our wonderful sport provides.

Whilst the development of junior football is paramount to the continued success of the AFL, it is as well important to see players who reach their thirties, forties and beyond stay involved in football.

With Masters Australian Football now being played in every State and Territory and over 120 teams currently participating in domestic competitions around Australia, our masters players are certainly being provided with an excellent opportunity to continue to enjoy our game.

Thanks to the enthusiasm dedication and competence of an Australia-wide body of administrators, Masters Australian Football continues to provide a safe environment with sensible modified rules for the enjoyment of all.

South Australia has a long history in the development of Australian Rules football. The AFL congratulates the Board and members of South Australian Masters Australian Football and the South Australian Government for providing promotion and support of the MAF Carnival in Adelaide through the South Australian Department of Tourism. I wish all teams, officials, umpires, players and other participants continued success and enjoyment both at the Adelaide Carnival and in the future.
