Masters Australian Football

Patron's Message for 2002 Carnival

Whilst the AFL has a strong commitment which profiles on the national elite competition. the AFL Commission is very conscious of the need to foster the growth of Australian Rules Football at all levels. With the continuing growth of masters sport in recent years we are very pleased to see our veterans have the opportunity to compete and enjoy football at the masters level with Masters Australian Football.

Whilst the development of junior football is paramount to the continued success of the AFL, it is as well important to see players who reach their mid thirties and beyond stay involved in football.

With Masters Australian Football now being played in every State/Territory and 119 teams currently participating in domestic competitions around Australia, our older players are certainly being provided with an excellent opportunity to continue to enjoy our game.

Thanks to the enthusiasm dedication and competence of an Australia-wide body of administrators, Masters Australian Football continues to provide a safe, fun environment with sensible modified rules for the enjoyment of all.

MAF forward strategic planning and the implementation of the recent Kicking Goals project with a $20,000 grant from the Australian Sports Commission to assist States to further develop the sport is a reflection on the excellent work being done by state and national Masters Australian Football administrators.

The AFL congratulates the Board of Masters Australian Football, Masters Australian Football Victorian Metropolitan and all associated with Masters Australian Football in bringing the national Carnival to Melbourne and wishes all teams and players continued success and enjoyment both at this Carnival and in the future.
