Welcome to Hobart
for the second time in Superules Carnival history. My memory of Hobart in
1985 was one of good football, good fun, late nights, some big winners at
Wrest Point and excellent overall organisation by the Tasmanian Committee.
There are still some of the 1985 members active on Angus Adams 1993
Organising Committee and I am sure their experience will enhance this year's
carnival.
From the National Executive's point of view, there has been a tremendous
amount of work undertaken and to Angus credit the size and organisation of
Superules in Tasmania has continued to grow at a most encouraging rate.
As I have stated on past occasions, Superules has grown steadily and in some
cases spectacularly since its formation in 1982 to a point where we now have
100 member clubs throughout Australia. As a matter of interest, there is a
club currently operating on Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean and we are
hopeful of having them participating in Perth next year.
Superules participation continues to grow at National Championship level
with the introduction of the Seniorules division being hailed as a huge
success by the last year's participants. Whilst the concept of no formal
winners exists, Seniorules will prosper.
LINDISFARNE Football Club has been chosen as the host venue for this year's
Carnival and I would suggest there has not been a more picturesque venue in
the history of Superules Championships.
PATRON
It is with deep regret that Superules Australia's Patron, Mr Alan Schwab
passed away during this season. Alan was a great help to Superules with his
behind the scenes help and to his family goes Superules deepest sympathy.
TASMANIAN SUPPORT
Tasmania Superules has been well supported by the State Government and
in particular, the Minister for Sport and Tourism, the Hon. Peter Hodgeman.
On behalf of Superules Australia, may I take this opportunity to formally
thank the Government for their support, the use of their facilities and the
provision of staff to assist the Carnival Organising Committee in their
endeavors.
The Holiday Isle will, I am sure, attract a majority of the expected 600
visitors to places outside the Hobart precincts at some stage of your trip.
The social program is one of the most promising presented to Superules
members and provided the weather is kind to Angus and his cohorts, a great
week will be had by all. An excellent environment has been created for old
friendships to be renewed and new ones to begin, so make the most of your
week of Football for Fun; Football for Kicks.
To the Supporting Sponsors of Tasmanian Superules headed by the Major
Sponsor, Mr Bill Turner of Carlton & United Breweries Limited, thank you for
your belief in Superules and also to the Tasmanian Football League for their
support.
Ansett Australia continues to support Superules in a most positive manner.
To their Groups and Conference Management Team of Max Wood and Dennis Smith,
together with the various State's Group Travel Managers, I know the problems
that you encounter moving large numbers, especially into the smaller ports
such as Hobart and I thank you sincerely for your efforts.
In closing, I wish all players, umpires, and supporters the very best for
this week and I trust the lasting memories you have of this week will be the
fellowship and interaction you have had with your friends from the other
States.
